Guided Back Country Fly Fishing Trips

for Wild Mountain Trout

When most people think of fly fishing, they most often think of the more famous rivers in the northeast and western United States. However, Lenoir, NC. is strategically located at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the eastern face of the Eastern Continental Divide and thus our area averages about five feet of rainfall per year which nearly qualifies it as a Temperate Rain Forest. This, in turn, gives rise to an extremely beautiful and intensely green hardwood forest that harbors numerous, pristine, mountain trout streams which have abundant populations of wild Brook, Brown, Rainbow, and Speckled trout. Therefore, the scenery on our local mountain streams is some of the most breathtaking North Carolina has to offer (please see the Photo Gallery) and the fly fishing here is absolutely excellent.

Also, in our opinion, small, mountain streams and ultra-wary native trout present the fly fisherman with the ultimate challenge to their tactical and casting skills. Thus, for those of you with a bit of experience, we offer guided walk & wade trips on local, backcountry, mountain streams such as Dugger Creek and Laurel Creek. There, anglers will be presented with the opportunity to “hunt” native Brook, Brown, Rainbow, and Speckled trout in some of the most pristine mountain trout waters the Southeast has to offer along with the opportunity to achieve an "Appalachian Grand Slam" by catching at least one of each species in the same day.

However, please note that fishing these streams requires good tactical and casting skills as well as a short hike on well-maintained trails to reach the prime areas. Also, please note that our guided trips are designed specifically for the experienced angler who posses their own gear and a strong sense of adventure. Thus, these trips are perfect for those of you who are looking for a solitary and intimate wilderness experience on streams where you will not see another angler (other than your guide) the entire day. In addition, our guide carries a digital camera and will be photographing your trip throughout the day and we will gladly mail you a CD containing all of your pictures so that you can share your experience with your friends.
